Joshua P. Rubin was born and raised in Port Huron, Michigan, where he attended Port Huron Area Schools and lifeguarded at the local beaches and pools during the summer months. After graduating from Port Huron Northern High School in 1996, Josh attended Michigan State University where he graduated, with Honors, from the School of Criminal Justice in 2000. Immediately after graduating from MSU, Josh began his legal education at the Michigan State University College of Law where he earned several academic awards including the prestigious Dean Charles H. King full-tuition scholarship as well as book awards (highest grade) in five of his first-year law classes. While at law school, Josh also served as a senior editor on the MSU Law Review, clerked for a U.S. District Court Judge, interned at Lakeshore Legal Aid and worked as a summer associate at Dykema Gossett, a leading national law firm in Detroit, Michigan. In 2003, Josh graduated, summa cum laude, from MSU Law at the top of his law school class.
After graduating from MSU Law, Josh returned to his hometown of Port Huron to build the foundation for his private law practice. After working as an associate attorney at a small Port Huron law firm, Josh joined his current firm of Bales & Rubin PLLC as a partner in 2005. Since then, Josh has focused his practice on criminal defense, driver’s license restoration, expungements, probation violations, and juvenile delinquency petitions.
Josh has a tremendous and profound respect for the privilege and responsibility that goes along with practicing law. Josh is known for giving straightforward, honest and practical legal advice to his clients so that the best possible result can be achieved. Josh excels in client communication, problem-solving, and effective advocacy in the courtroom. Josh’s experience includes representing well over 4000 clients, conducting over 150 criminal jury trials, and countless / ongoing training seminars to keep his skillset sharp.
In his free time, Josh enjoys planning/taking trips with his family, spending time hanging out on Lake Huron, skiing, working out at the gym, and studying personal finance.
Thomas M. Bales was born and raised in Port Huron, Mich., and attended Port Huron area schools. Mr. Bales received a degree in Legal and Political Philosophy with honors from the College of James Madison at Michigan State University. He received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Detroit in 1991 while working at National Labor Relations Board in Detroit, Mich.
From 1992 to 1998, Mr. Bales worked as Corporate Counsel for Seligman and Associates in Bloomfield Hills, Mich. He was also the Vice President of Operations of Scott Management, a subsidiary of Seligman and Associates.
From 1998 to 2001, Mr. Bales worked as Corporate Counsel of The Fourmidable Group in Farmington Hills, Mich.
Mr. Bales currently specializes in criminal, family, and juvenile. He also specializes in driver license restoration, wills, and landlord/tenant cases.
